Health Protection Agency HPA confirms 153 new cases of COVID-19 as the government imposes an-8-hour curfew in the capital Male’ City.

In a tweet, HPA said the 153 new cases included 116 Maldivians, 22 Bangladeshis, 11 Indians, 1 Indonesian, 1 Egyptian, 1 Briton, and 1 Kenyan.

HPA had also highlighted that out the 153 cases reported today, 148 were reported from Male’ Area while 5 new cases were confirmed from the Atolls.

The new cases have taken the total number of positive individuals to 4446.

Meanwhile, HPA said that 23 people recovered from the illness today and had taken the total recovered to a promising 2963.

But with the rise in new cases, the number of active cases of COVID-19 has also risen with 1719 currently reported as active cases of COVID-19.

HPA said that while 1152 have been placed at isolation facilities, authorities have now hospitalized 105 individuals for further treatment.

The Maldives has recorded 19 COVID-19 deaths with the latest being an 80-year-old local woman who passed away earlier this morning. A total of 14 locals and 5 foreigners have died of COVID-19 in the country since April of this year.

Earlier today, Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC had imposed an 8-hour-curfew in the Male’ area from 10 pm to 5 am starting tonight to further restrict movement and prevent the spread of infection in the capital city.
