Health Protection Agency HPA reports 47 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives yesterday with 111 confirmed cases of the global pandemic reported in the country in the last 48 hours.

In its latest tweet, HPA said that the 47 new cases included 43 Maldivians, 3 Bangladeshis, and 1 Indian national.

This means 87 Maldivians have tested positive for COVID-19 in just two days.

It also takes the total number of locals tested positive for the illness to a staggering 1030.

With 1314 Bangladeshis also tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has now reached 2664.

Meanwhile, HPA confirmed that 30 individuals recovered from the illness yesterday taking the total number of recovered cases to 2268.

There are 368 active cases of COVID-19 in the country with 330 individuals isolated and 97 placed under quarantine.

The Maldives has recorded 13 COVID-19 deaths including 8 locals and 5 foreigners.

The number of new cases has been increasing in the last few days after the Government implemented major lockdown eases on the 1st of this month.

This includes re-opening schools and government offices as well as resuming communal prayers in the capital Male’.
