Former Maldives President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has urged for stricter preventative and control measures against Covid-19 viral disease.

In a Tweet on Monday, the former Maldives statesman notes that the spread of the contagion has been fast while the death toll has increased recently.

Gayoom had urged health authorities to place stricter regulations and control measures much like amid the lockdown to further curb the spread of Covid-19.

Meanwhile the total number of positive cases discovered in Maldives have since reached to 2,468 with 403 active cases. Subsequently the total number of recoveries have increased to 2,049 while the number deaths have increased to 12.

According to local health authorities 7 locals and 5 expatriates have passed away due to complications from contracting the disease.
