The government has extended the State of Public Health Emergency till the 14 of July.

Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen signed declaration extends the Public Health Emergency period until mid-July.

This is the fourth time the state of public health emergency has been extended.

The extension was ordered by the powers vested to Minister Ameen under Section 33 of the Public Health Protection Act.

The declaration said that the state of public health emergency was extended to further quell the spread of the virus and safeguard the health of the general public.

It also said that the Director-General of Public Health had also advised the Minister to extend the public health emergency period given the current situation of the pandemic in the Maldives.

Minister Ameen initially declared a state of public health emergency in the country on the 12th of March for 30 days.

The Capital City, Male’ has been under lockdown since the 15th of April after the discovery of its first case of Covid-19 back in April.

But has eased the restrictions substantially since earlier this month with public now allowed to go outside between 5 am and 10 pm without a police permit. With most retail services now allowed to start operations, the country is set to enter the next phase of the restriction ease on the first of July.
