Male' City Council has ordered to vacate the idle vehicles at Industrial Village at the west-end of the city.

In an announcement the council authority has ordered to clear the area within a seven-day period, which commenced on 18 June. All vehicle owners have been ordered to vacate the area within the said duration.

Recently it was reported both Male' City Council and Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) have commenced a massive-scale clean-up of the entire Industrial Village Zone.

The Industrial Village was established during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, in a bid to shift all industrial capacity works and warehouses into a designated area.

Moreover, the zone was also established in order to move the hazardous chemicals into safer storage facilities that are mostly stocked across warehouses in densely populated areas of the city.

As of now the zone has a total of 37 newly imported and unregistered vehicles parked and another 37 damaged and old vehicles. The council adds the zone has an additional 9 vehicles used in construction works and over 348 vehicles which are operated on a regular capacity.

Furthermore a total of 18 vehicles have been left abandoned with loaded trash.

Male' City Council has warned the vehicles will be moved by the authority with the help of Maldives Police Service if their respective owners fail to clear them out within the provided duration.
