The government has repatriated 2458 Bangladeshi nationals living in the Maldives since the Covid-19 crisis began in March of this year.
The department of immigration confirmed via tweeter today that 200 Bangladeshi nationals were sent back to their country.
Immigration data shows that more than 800 Bangladeshis have been repatriated this month alone.
The government has been chartering flights to send the migrant workers back and also have been working with the Bangladeshi authorities to repatriate the Bangladeshis.
Earlier this year, President Ibrahim Solih said that the government plans to send back around 1500 Bangladeshis back home but later on the government said that it would work to send back 500 Bangladeshis within the next three months.
Meanwhile, the number of Bangladeshi nationals tested positive for Covid-19 in the Maldives has reached 1027. This accounts for 53.6 percent of the total number of positive cases in the country. The total number of Covid-19 cases has now reached 1916.
Four Bangladeshi nationals have died of Covid-19 in the Maldives.
