Hulhumale Medical Facility, built to treat Covid-19 patients, has received its first patient.

This was confirmed by Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital via tweeter.

In its tweet, IGMH said that around 17:35hrs the facility received its first Covid-19 patient from Tree Top Hospital.

Authorities had installed medical equipment last Thursday.

Meanwhile, State Trading Organization STO had supplied all the personal protection equipment (PPE) to the facility on Thursday. STO had said that the facility would become a vital tool in the continuing fight against Covid-19 in the country.

The facility located in front of the Tree Top Hospital in Hulhumale has an ICU and ventilators to treat the most critical Covid-19 patients. Initially, the authorities planned to build the facility with 300 beds but the facility was finished with 295 beds.

IGMH had carried out a special drill to test the medical setup of the facility and readiness of its staff. The facility was handed over to IGMH on the 24th of May.

The Government had planned to finish the facility by early April but hit a snag when the site of the facility became a hotspot for Covid-19 infections with over 126 positive cases relating back to the site.
