Former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik urges authorities to pay more attention to non-COVID health matters to prevent unnecessary deaths.

In a tweet, Dr. Waheed highlighted the recent spike in prenatal deaths in the country. He said that four prenatal deaths in a space of two months are unacceptable.

He went onto say that the Covid-19 crisis has burdened the country’s healthcare system in a manner that was not expected.

He urged authorities to pay more attention to non-COVID health matters to prevent unnecessary deaths.

This comes after media in the country reported about two more prenatal deaths in the country. Previously two more neonatal deaths were reported from AA. Thoddu and Sh. Narudhoo after the mothers were denied timely antenatal care amid the Covid-19 crisis in the country. Also, a seven-month-old infant dies in the arms of the babies parents at ADK after the doctors there failed to administer the correct course of treatment.

Social media has been rife with stories of negligence, especially at the Country’s main hospital IGMH. This has prompted the hospital to announce that they would be making policy changes to offer better and quality services to its patients.
