The last batch of stranded Indians in Maldives, who remained stuck in the island nation amid the Covid-19 viral pandemic blocking international travel, are expected to embark on their journey back home on Friday.
An Indian military vessel, INS Jalashwa berthed at Maldives sometime on Friday afternoon in order to repatriate its fellow countrymen.
The vessel is expected to take over 700 Indians back home, while previous such missions had successfully repatriated several of the country's nationals back home.
According to local news, the stranded Indians will be embaring sometime on Friday evening. Meanwhile Indian local media have reported the repatriated Indians will be reaching Tuticorin.
Additional reports claim most of the repatriates include Southern or Tamil descents.
The rescued Indians will be escorted to quarantine with accordance to the country's quarantine protocols, upon disembarking.
Meanwhile the Indian High Commission have expressed its gratitude to Maldives government for their assistance in repatriating its citizens.
