National Emergency Operations Center Mohamed Mabrook Azeez says ADK will charge MVR 675 for a Covid-19 test.
Speaking to local reporters online, Mabrook said that ADK would charge for a Covid-19 test, as it is a private hospital. He also said that although ADK would charge for a Covid-19 test, state hospital IGMH would continue doing the test for free. Mabrook added that ADK hospital would bill GMH for all the Covid-19 tests they carry out.
The NEOC spokesperson also said that although ADK is applying a charge for the test, the public couldn’t acquire the service from the hospital independently. He added that ADK would only charge for the samples assigned by the NEOC and that the public does not have to pay ADK for their Covid-19 tests.
Mabrook clarified the issue after some reporters raised questions about the funds spent on Covid-19 testing as it is paid for by taxpayers’ money.
While 1841 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the Maldives, authorities have tested more than 20,000 samples for the Covid-19 virus.
