A total of 105 Maldivians stranded abroad are expected to fly home on Sunday, says Mohamed Mabrook Azeez.
The official spokesperson on Covid-19 related updates in Maldives, on Saturday confirmed the locals who have been stranded in various foreign countries are expected to reach home sometime on Sunday.
During Saturday's press conference, Mr. Azeez claimed Sunday's rescue flight will include 48 Maldivians who were stranded in Belarus, 23 locals stuck at UK and another 32 from Sri Lanka.
The 48 Maldivian students stuck at Belarus reached London sometime on Friday with the assistance of the country's embassy at Germany. The students will be traveling along with the 23 students who were stuck at UK with the assistance of Maldivian embassy in the country.
Maldives government have been vigorously attempting to rescue stranded locals from foreign countries while the border closure remains intact as the pandemic continues to stretch.
The rescue flight is expected to land in Maldives around 08:55hrs on Sunday morning.
All repatriates will be escorted to quarantine facilities for a 14-day duration upon immediate arrival.
