Judicial Service Administration JDA says courts would resume tomorrow in islands free of Covid-19 global pandemic.
In a statement, JDA said as the government had eased some of the restrictive measures taken against the pandemic but kept the ban on non-essential travel between the islands, the likelihood of the virus spreading from island to island has now narrowed.
JDA said in light of this courts would resume normal proceedings from 08:00hrs in the morning to 14:00hrs in the afternoon in islands without any reported Covid-19 cases.
JDA added that the courts in the islands without Covid-19 must open with safety measures to deter the spread of the highly contagious virus including maintaining social distancing protocols.
JDA noted that courts could use audio/video or audio conferencing to issue marriage licenses and if the courts are to hold hearings, it should be held in a way that does crowd the courtroom.
Yesterday Health Protection Agency HPA had said that islands without Covid-19 cases or not under monitoring can now resume public services including social and economic services and that islanders can move within the island itself.
Today, the government announced that it would re-open its institutions with minimized operational hours starting Sunday.
The government is expected to reopen under special circumstances from 1 June until 11 June for a two-week period.
