Government says communal prayers in the Male’ are would be banned for two more weeks as authorities ease some restrictive measures taken to quell the viral outbreak of Covid-19.
Health Minister Abdullah Ameen confirmed this decision at a news conference held by the National Emergency Operations Center NEOC last night.
The Minister said even though some of the lockdown measures in place in the Male' area would be lifted; mosques in the capital city would remain closed. He had said government offices; schools, public parks, and spaces would also remain closed for the next two weeks.
The government banned communal prayers in the Male’ Area on the 18th of March and it was the first step it took in the fight against Covid-19. A month later on 19th April, the government banned congregational prayers in all parts of the nation.
But last week, the government rescinded this ban for islands not monitoring for Covid-19 and has allowed communal prayers in these islands starting last Friday.
