Capital Travel, one of the leading tour operators in the Maldives, is gearing up for the much-expected tourist arrivals to the country after the government opens the country’s borders for tourism in July.

This comes after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced last week that the government was working to open the country’s door for tourism in the next two months. The tourism Ministry has already drafted a guideline that outlines the conditions that should be met if and when the tourism industry starts to take off.

This is just what Capital Travel; one of the most prominent and experienced tour operators in the country has been waiting eagerly for.

In an interview with ‘The Press’, Founder and principal owner of the Capital Group of Companies Yoosuf Riffath said that the company has been working to offer discounts to tourists when the country opens its borders for the world.

He said that the company has been having discussions with several resorts operating in the country to offer discounts to the arrivals. Riffath said that capital travel was also working to arrange special activities and excursions for tourists at reduced prices.

Riffath said that the company made daily bookings from tourists around the world mainly from southeast Asian countries impatient for the country to open back its doors for tourists. He noted that many from Italy and other European destinations have made bookings for August and September of this year.

The CEO of Capital Travel said that the company has been struggling since February of this year amid the Covid-19 crisis that has brought devastating impacts on the global tourism industry. Riffath said that although over 80 staff working for the company, the company has not let any of its employees go despite the testing times.

Riffath said Capital Travel is aiming to recover the losses suffered by the country’s thriving tourism industry during the months of February, March, April, and May as a result of the Covid-19 global pandemic. He anticipated that the industry could get back on its feet within the remainder of this year, if the government opens the country’s border on the 1st of July.

Riffath applauded the efforts by the government to bring back some form of semblance of normalcy to the tourism industry by striving to open the borders as early as July.

However, he cautioned that all those involved must take all necessary safety and security measures before the country can welcome back tourists.

“Maldives must offer secure occupancy to tourists. There should not be cases where the tourists test positive for Covid-19 when they return to their countries after holidaying the Maldives. We cannot let that happen”
Yoosuf Riffath, CEO, Capital Travel

Riffath said that even with the losses stacking up for the tourism industry, the industry could bounce back from these unprecedented circumstances with the guidance from the government and perseverance from all industry leaders.
