IGMH’s Internal Medicine specialist Dr. Moosa Murad says easing of the restrictive measures to combat Covid-19 does not mean that the outbreak has been contained in the country.
Addressing the media, Dr. Murad cautioned against mistaking the ease in restrictive measures as an indication that the outbreak has been controlled in the Maldives.
However, He said that the country cannot remain under a lockdown for a long duration and that the situation would be reviewed after the measures are initially relaxed.
Dr. Murad said the country can only resume a normal life with the cooperation from all of its citizens and that the number of positive cases should remain at a level that can be controlled.
He outlined precautionary measures that could be taken when offices and schools re-opens and highlighted ways to remain infection-free when attending communal prayers at mosques. He pointed out that one of the most important factors in controlling the outbreak is maintaining the number of hospitalized cases at a minimum.
On Wednesday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that the government plans to ease the current restrictive measures taken against Covid-19 and would ease the lockdown of Male’ Area now in place.
He said that these plans would allow people to go outside, open government offices, schools, cafés, and restaurants and also open mosques for communal prayers. He added that these plans would be implemented in phases and that these details would be shared with the public in the coming days.
