Islamic Ministry says this year Fitr Eid prayers should be performed at homes across the nation as the country fights global pandemic Covid-19.

In a statement, the Islamic Ministry said the upcoming Fitr Eid prayer should not be performed in congregation and that each household can perform the eid prayer within the safety of their homes. The Ministry instructed citizens to chant the Eid Takbeer (supplications read before prayers) and make duas as much as they can from within their homes. It also called on the country to enjoy the occasion of Eid within the boundaries of Islam and to maintain the social distancing boundaries set by the authorities.

The Ministry said eid prayers in households could be performed just as they are performed in open fields and mosques. But households can forgo the Eid prayer sermon; as such sermons should be given when the prayers are performed among larger crowds.

Islamic Ministry said that Eid prayers can be performed individually but the whole household performing the prayers in congregation is more pious.

How to perform Eid prayers at homes

Make niyyah (intention) of performing Eid prayers, chant Takbeer and clasp hands on the chest while reading dua of Isthihaaf

Recite eid Takbeer 7 times and raise hands to shoulders during each takbeer.

Recite Surah Fatiha and another Surah

Complete first Rakat like all other prayers and stand up for the second Rakat

Chant Eid takbeer five times in addition to the Takbeer chanted upon standing for the second Rakat. Raise hands to shoulders while chanting each takbeer.

Recite Surah Fatiha and another surah

Complete the second Rakat and recite At-tahiyyat and finish the prayer by giving salaam.

Islamic Ministry reiterated that even though Eid prayers are to be performed in crowded congregations, the ongoing Covid-19 crisis has forced the government to ban congregational Fard prayers across the nation to avoid crowd gathering.

This is the first time congregational Eid Prayers would not be performed in the country as the Covid-19 crisis continues to intensify with 1094 tested positive for the illness in the country.
