Home Minister Imran Abdullah says five police officers have tested positive for Covid-19 and that 170 officers have been quarantined.

Speaking in an interview given to Raaje TV Minister Imran said Police officers are active on the frontline of the fight against Covid-19 carrying out day-to-day activities and are at great risk of contracting the virus.

He said till now five police officers have tested positive and more than 170 officers have been placed under quarantine.

Minister Imran said police officers were risking their lives and that their sacrifice should be appreciated. He said arrangements have been made to give accommodation to an adequate number of frontline officers, so that they do not have to go back to their families after battling the virus.

Minister said guaranteeing the safety of frontline officers have been discussed among top officials and SOPs have been drafted on the subject.

While 5 police officers have tested positive for Covid-19, 20 MNDF officers have also tested positive for the virus. Yesterday alone 96 people tested positive for the virus taking the total infected to 744.
