President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih predicts Covid-19 cases in the Maldives would spikes in the next two weeks as the country gears up for the second wave of community infections.
Addressing the nation today, President Solih said this prediction is based on the forecasts by the health experts working against the virus in the country.
The President said the government would need the people’s cooperation to overcome the hurdles of the next two weeks.
Meanwhile, the Health Protection Agency’s Dr. Afzal also pointed out last night that the next two weeks would be key in the fight against the global pandemic here in the Maldives. He had said the number of cases would surge in the coming weeks but did not detail the reasoning behind this prediction.
According to HPA’s latest data, 150 people under quarantine have been tested but their results are still pending.
The Government is also working to decongest migrant workers living quarters as they are the most vulnerable to the community spread of the virus. With 8 such housing under monitoring, authorities are also placing migrant workers at risk of contracting the virus under quarantine at the facility established in Gulhee Falhu.
