The number of positive cases within a 24-hour window have observed its record high in Maldives since the first case was discovered in Maldives Capital on 15 April.
On Thursday, 30 April the total number of cases within a 24-hour window crossed into 117 in total.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Thursday afternoon confirmed 95 person tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Moments after the authority confirmed another 22 persons tested positive for the virus.
The initial batch of positive cases consisted of 61 Bangladesh nationals, 32 Indians and 2 Nepalese.
Meanwhile, Maldives government have been forced to continue with strict safety measures as the infected toll do not seem to slow down. Government have announced extending state closure until 14 May.
Moreover, ban on congregational prayer have been extended until 14 May as well.
The Director General of Public Health announced extension on the State of Public Health Emergency in the wake of the alarming case confirmation figures on Thrusday afternoon.
The State of Public Health Emergency will remain until 30 May according to Maldives government.
