Health Protection Agency (HPA) confirms a total of 33 children among the persons contracting the COVID-19 virus in Maldives.

The health agency confirmed all the viral infected patients were receiving treatment at various isolation units.

Dr Ibrahim Afzal, who sits in the COVID-19 Task Force panel briefing local media detailed the children were below the age of 12. Dr Afzal confirmed the news during the press at National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC).

The COVID-19 Task Force member further added the various age groups of patients. Out of the total, 116 patients were aged between 12 and 40 and 50 were aged between 40 and 60. Two patients who contracted the disease were elderly, aged 68 and 80.

Dr Afzal attested most patients do not show severe symptoms or signs of the viral contagion. Many of the infected persons carried minor or nil symptoms as per health officials. Only two of the patients required extended medical attention, who were transferred to the DH11 of Dharmavantha Hospital.

Maldives reports a total of 250 cases; positive for the virus. The cases include 99 locals and 151 expatriates.
