The Maldives government have increased the island nation's ttesting capacity for the COVID-19 virus.
Speaking to local media during Friday evening's press conference, Mohamed Mabrouk Azeez; the official spokesperson on the latest developments of the virus in Maldives attested to this.
The testing machine at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) which earlier had a testing capacity ranged between 250 to 300 per day, have improved to 350 tests per day with the inclusion of new machinery.
Spokesperson, Azeez, confirmed a PCR machine used at the forensics division of Maldives Police Service have now been utilized for to test for the viral presence.
Azeez further confirmed the machine's accuracy was verified with a set of sample testings.
The Maldives Ministry of Health had permitted the usage of the PCR machine in the clinical testing of the viral presence.
The ministry have arranged the local law enforcement service to run 50 tests per day, noting improvement on test numbers with prospective inclusion of new machinery.
IGMH hospital will be procuring a new extraction machine by the end of April; which will increase the testing capacity in significant proportion.
