Accurate data on the viral COVID-19 disease's spread in Male' region can be confirmed only after the 14-day lockdown period, claimed HPA.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) of Maldives confirmed this during Thursday evening's press briefing to local media.

The health agency's medical officer Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq on Thursday's press briefing speculated the positive cases discovered from Greater Male' Region amid the lockdown, may be individuals who contracted the disease prior to Maldives state imposing the region wide lockdown.

Dr. Nazla Rafeeq had further explained an accurate spread pattern can be assessed only after the current 14-day lockdown period. She confirmed the authority was attempting to flatten the curve and control spread of the COVID-19 by stricter means.

"We don't have a magic bullet, there is nothing more we can do control the spread of the disease. We are already utilizing counter measures to its full capacity, and isolate anyone carrying the disease as soon as we discover them," she noted.

On Thursday, it was reported a total of 23 positive cases were discovered in Greater Male' Region - the highest number of cases within a 24-hour window since the discovery of the first case in the city.

The latest updates confirm the total number of cases in Maldives, inclusive of those who have already made recovery, have reached 110 with 92 currently sick and in treatment.
