Health Protection Agency HPA says an 80-year-old individual tested positive for Covid-19 today in Male’ has been taken to Dharumavantha Hospital 11th floor DH11.
In a tweet, HPA said the individual was transferred to DH11 for close observation and monitoring.
This is the first time an elderly individual had tested positive for Covid-19 in the country.
Health experts have said elderly patients are most likely to become critical after contracting the Covid-19 virus.
Meanwhile, HPA confirmed that a Bangladeshi individual was tested positive for Covid-19 today. HPA said the individual will be transferred to an isolation facility and that they currently establishing any links with other cases.
This takes the individuals tested positive for Covid-19 in Maldives today alone to 14.
HPA said total individuals tested positive for the virus now stands at 83.
