Health authorities confirm discovery of yet another positive case of COVID-19 virus from Greater Male' Region.
According to Health Protection Agency (HPA), the latest confirmation is the 16th case from Greater Male' Regon. HPA further commented the latest positive case was confirmed from Bangladeshi national.
With this positive case, the current tally of Bangladesh nationals positive for the virus discovered from Male' region have risen to two.
Authorities confirm the Bangladesh national is currently being transferred to an isolation facility for treatment.
The current total positive cases reported from Male' Region have risen to 16 with Sunday's confirmation.
Meanwhile, moments ago confirmation came that health authorities discovered 13 expatirates positive with the COVID-19 virus. All foreigners with the virus were discovered from Greater Male' Region.
With this the total number of positive cases discovered from Greater Male' Region have risen to 31. The total number of positive cases from Maldives have increased to 51.
The first positive case from Male' area was reported on 15 April, Wednesday. Health authorities identified the positive individual as case-21, and conducted contact tracing.
Under 24-hours, two more cases; case-22 (infant child of case-21), and case-23 (direct contact of case-21 and case-22) were discovered by authorities.
Maldives government declared a total lockdown on Greater Male' Region on 15 April, Wednesday for a 24-hour duration. However, with the discovery of several additional cases the lockdown was stretched to another 24-hours before it was expanded to a 14-day period.
Although only two expatriates were discovered from Male' region with the virus, the current tally have risen to a total of 15 expatriates positive for COVID-19 from the area.
