The Managing Director of State Trading Organization (STO), Hussain Amru has quashed rumors of Maldives running out on staple food stocks.

In a tweet, the frontman of STO said such rumors will elevate tension and further incite fear and panic in the public during times of economic stress. Amru had confirmed details of STO dispatching staple foods to various atolls will be available on the corporation's website.

STO Managing Director had confirmed the corporation was currently delivering staple foods to remaining atolls.

Amru made the tweet to quash recent rumors alleging the stock on rice have run out.

Earlier, STO had assured the Maldives public not to resort to panic in light of the viral COVID-19 pandemic; over possible insufficiency of staple foods.

According to the state-owned enterprise, it will ensure the Maldives public received all necessary staple food items as well as medications despite the current economic duress.
