Maldives Police on Saturday have confirmed apprehension of 92 individuals out on road amid lockdown.

According to local law enforcement, the individuals were apprehended from Greater Male' Region; Male', Hulhumale' and Vilimale' on 18 April 2020, Saturday.

On Wednesday, 15 April 2020, the very first case of COVID-19 from Male' City was discovered throwing the island nation's capital into a state of hastening counter measures.

Maldives government on Wednesday afternoon declared a complete lockdown on the Greater Male' Region for an initial 24-hour duration.

Within the first 24-hour window, a total of 3 cases inclusive of the first reported case from Male' City were reported forcing the government to extend its lockdown on Greater Male' for another 24-hours.

On Friday, 17 April 2020, a nationwide lockdown became effective post 18:00hs.

As of Saturday, 18 April 2020, the total number of positive cases from Male' City have risen up to 14 - 13 locals and 1 Bangladesh national.

All positive cases have been transferred to isolation facilities for treatment.

Due to the high number of individuals discovered from contact tracing on the initially discovered cases, as well as over 75 individuals from the initial cluster of contact tracing under high-risk, the lockdown on Greater Male' Region was extended for a 14-day duration.

Meanwhile all forms of transportation, general or public, have been banned by authorities with the exemption of permitted individuals or employees of health, security and other institutions with special permissions granted access for travel and transport.

Members of the general public are expected to fill online permit forms via Maldives Police Service portal, to go out on specific requirements.

Individuals found in violation of the regulations by Police and authorities will be penalized, under lockdown protocols.
