Health Protection Agency HPA says three other individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 in Male’ today as more cases are expected with pervasive community spread of the virus now confirmed.

In a series of tweets this afternoon, HPA had first reported that a Bangladeshi national has tested positive for Covid-19 in Male’.

HPA said the person was a direct contact of case 30 and that the person was tested after showing Covid-19 like symptoms.

This is the 12th person to test positive for Covid-19 in Male’ in the space of four days.

HPA confirmed that the person is now being transported to an isolation facility.

Meanwhile HPA tweeted a few moments ago that a sample taken from a Maldivian national who was a direct contact of case 28 has tested positive for Covid-19.

This is the 13th person to become positive for Covid-19 in Male’ and is being transferred to an isolation facility.

HPA had also confirmed that a 14th person tested positive for Covid-19 in Male’ today. HPA said this individual was a direct contact of case 27 and had shown Covid-19 like symptoms. HPA added that the individual is being transferred to an isolation facility.

Authorities have said projection models with the latest data show that the spread of the virus will hit peak in 14 days.

They warned that if the curve were not flattened before it hit peak, the country’s healthcare system would not be able to cope leaving many without efficient treatment of the highly contagious illness.
