The Council of Kaafu atoll Kaashidhoo have imposed a ban on congregational prayers in the island.

The island council's president Ali Sultan commented the decision was announced due to the current condition of Kaashidhoo.

Council's announcement was declared to the island through the use of megaphones, according to one local source.

Meanwhile, Maldives Ministry of Islamic Affairs have ordered to the island council with a ban on congregational prayers as well as the coming Friday prayer.

Additional reports confirm a residence from Kaashidhoo has been monitored by health authorities.

The island cordoned off all travels in and out of the island on Wednesday, 15 April 2020 after it was confirmed a 'direct contact' of Case 21 - the first positive case from Male' City - arrived in the island earlier.

The COVID-19 Case 21, identified as a local female and a health practitioner was reported of not possessing any recent travel history according to HPA.

Since the discovery of the first positive case in Male' City, two more positive cases from the city have been confirmed.
