The second rescue flight from India has arrived today with 159 Maldivians onboard.
National airline Maldivian said the passenger were picked up from Indian cities of Bangalore and Cochi.
Maldivian said the flight landed in Velaana International airport at 13:00hrs.
Official spokesperson for Covid-19 updates Mohamed Mabrook Azeez had said last night that a repatriation flight has been scheduled for today to bring 157 individuals stranded in India amid the Covid-19 crisis. He had also said these 159 individuals were locals who travelled to India for medicinal purposes via national health scheme aasandha.
Government has so far scheduled rescue flights to Sri Lanka, India and Malaysia to bring home the Maldivians stranded in these countries as a result of the strict measures taken against global pandemic Covid-19.
But authorities have urged Maldivians staying abroad to remain where they are if the situation is not desperate and that the travel back to Maldives might be too risky with airports deemed hotspots for the highly contagious virus.
