Maldives Police Service says MRF 1.7 million was stolen in the robbery of Apollo Holdings Private Limited Office.
Police said the incident was reported to them some time yesterday and the suspects had broken the office safe to steal the cash.
Police also said USD 2200 was also stolen from the safe in the incident.
Police said no suspects have yet been arrested regarding the case and that criminal investigation was ongoing.
Authorities have taken several measures to deter the spread of Covid-19 in the congested Male’ city including banning more than 3 people from forming crowds out in the public. Police have been enforcing these measures and as a result road traffic in the capital has dwindled.
But law enforcement officers assured that they would also vigilent for crimes such as robberies and thefts during this time.
