Official Spokesperson on Covid-19 Mohamed Mabrouk Azeez says the acquisition of ventilators needed for the fight against covid-19 will be conducted as per the Public Finance Act.

Addressing the media, Mabrouk said authorities are working to acquire 135 ventilators and that this acquisition will fall under the category of emergency purchases as mandated by the Public Finance Act.

Mabrouk said government had come to an agreement with one company to purchase 50 ventilators while another company has agreed to buy 20 ventilators. He added that although contracts for the transaction have been signed with the two companies, any monetary exchanges are yet to be made.

Mabrouk also clarified that government was working with World Health Organization WHO to acquire 65 regular ventilators, 10 portable ventilators and one specialized for treatment in ICU.

Meanwhile, Machangoalhi Dhekunu constituency Haitham Ahmed has sent a letter to the speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed requesting him to summon Health Minister Abdullah Ameen to the parliament to update lawmakers on the acquisition of ventilators.
