Health Protection Agency HPA says 33 samples taken from Joali Maldives have all tested negative for Covid-19.

The resort along with R. Bodufushi was placed under monitoring after a Turkish national tested positive for Covid-19 having departed the Maldives on 31st of March.

The individual had worked in these two resorts as they are under the same management.

Addressing the media, HPA’s Medical Officer Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said first samples taken from 33 individuals identified as direct contacts of the infected foreigner had all tested negative for the highly contagious virus.

HPA had earlier taken a sample from a Maldivian national who was identified as a direct contact of the Turkish National.

HPA said the sample was taken after the individual showed Covid-19 like symptoms. HPA added that the individual is currently at a isolation facility.

Authorities have been carrying out contact tracing for the individual with 33 staffs from Joali Maldives among those identified as direct contacts of the infected individual and have been isolated.

Officials have said other direct contacts of the individual include airport transfer crew, airport ground crew and flight crew.
