The Health Protection Agency (HPA) of Maldives has declared extension on the currently exercised State of Public Health Emergency.

The agency has declared an extension of an additional 30-day period for the Public Health Emergency.

Earlier, Maldives government declared the island nation will exercise a State of Public Health Emergency following the now global COVID-19 pandemic's first wave of cases reported in the country.

Following state's declaration, the government picked up pace to make swift policies and lay effective counter-measures in the effort of flattening the curve of the viral pandemic's spread.

Under the State of Public Health Emergency, several restrictions have been imposed which includes temporary closure of government bodies and commissions.

The Maldives parliament along with other independent bodies, state-owned enterprises and many of the private sector companies have temporarily closed their regular conduct of operations.

Moreover, all educational institutions including schools, colleges and universities have closed temporarily with classes and academic programs continuing through online medium and televised classes.

Other public gathering venues such as restaurants, cafeterias and local food-huts have been closed under government imposition with takeaway and delivery options made available.
