Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirm care packages have been handed over to send for a total of 144 local families currently locked-down at India.

The ministry confirms a total of 154 applications were approved, while the care packages have been handed over for delivery. The packages are set to be delivered to local families currently residing at Cochin and Trivandrum.

Each care package should be a maximum of 15kgs according to regulations.

Moreover, the packages are required to consist medications unavailable at India or crucial or specific items of necessity.

According to the ministry, the items that are permitted to be delivered as care packages include;

  • Prescribed medicine (Doctor's Prescription should be included)
  • Canned Fish, Noodles (Case), Rihaakuru (only limited to either MIFCO or Enzi original packaging)
  • Packed fish, packed dried leaves and other packed food items
  • General food items

The care packages are set from the Trivandrum bound Maldivian Airlines flight on Saturday.

Maldives government took the initiative in assisting local families to deliver necessary items to their families members currently stuck at the neighboring country.

Meanwhile, India has been exercising a nationwide lockdown in light of the viral COVID-19 pandemic.
