National Carrier Maldivian says its repatriation flight to Malaysia carried 7 tons of care packages to Maldivians living in the country.

Addressing the media tonight, Spokesperson for Maldivian Mr. Moosa Waseem said the chartered flight is now on it’s way to Malaysia and that it will depart the country at 2am Malaysia time.

Mr. Moosa said under the special permission given by the Malaysia Government to allow Maldivian’s flight into the country’s airspace, 30 Malaysians stranded here in Maldives flew back to Malaysia on the rescue flight.

Maldivian had earlier transported 9 tons of care packages to Lanka on its weekly cargo plane.

Government Authorities say over 8000 Maldivians have registered as living abroad. Maldivian is working with the government to bring home Maldivians stranded abroad amid the ongoing Covid-19 crisis that caused many countries to close their airspace and go on lockdown.
