Official spokesperson for Covid-19 related updates Mr. Mohamed Mabrouk Azeez says 189 Maldivians who arrived from Cochin today have all been placed under quarantine.
They arrived in Maldives on national carrier Maldivian’s repatriation flight from Cochin, India where a number of Maldivians were left stranded after Indian Authorities ordered a 21-day lockdown in the country to deter the spread of Covid-19.
Speaking to the media tonight, Mr. Mabrouk said most of the arrivals today had traveled to India for medical purposes and many are still in need of medical assistance. He said they were placed at Olhuveli quarantine facility and work is now underway to further bolster the team of doctors and nurses currently present at the facility.
Mr. Mabrouk said currently 12 individual remain under isolation and 876 people are being quarantined at various facilities across the country.
National Carrier Maldivian had chartered rescue flights to Sri Lanka and Cochin to bring home Maldivians struck in these destinations amid the current crisis. Its flight rescue flight to Malaysia is set to return early tomorrow morning.
