Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid says national carrier Maldivian will schedule repatriation flights to Malaysia to bring back Maldivians stranded there amid the on-going Covid-19 crisis.

The Minister said this after Maldivian announced repatriation flights to Sri Lanka’s Colombo and India’s Cochin are scheduled to operate on 5th and 6th April.

In a tweet, Minister Shahid Maldivian will schedule flights to Malaysia’s KL and India’s Trivandrum. He said the details of these flights would be announced soon and that Maldivians remaining in these cities will also have the opportunity to return home.

Meanwhile speaking to the press tonight, Spokesperson for Maldivian Moosa Waseem said the flight scheduled for India’s Cochin could carry 200 passengers and that two flights carrying 50 passengers each will fly to Colombo.

Waseem said Maldivians desperate to return home are contacting the company via social media. He also cited foreign Minister’s tweet and said that Maldivian were looking to schedule its repatriation flights to additional cities but would have to acquire all the documents and permits first.
