Maldivian Airline has announced it will be flying special flights to India and Sri Lanka to bring in locals in those countries back to their home.
The national carrier of Maldives reported two flights will be landing at Sri Lanka on Sunday afternoon around 17:50hrs and will expectedly return around 18:40hrs, carrying locals.
In addition to this, one flight is expected to leave from Cochin, India on Monday evening carrying locals back home.
Maldivian have requested to forward passport copy and contact number through their Viber handle to book seats for the flights.
Meanwhile, Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid had expressed his gratitude to the decision of the country's national carrier in their effort to extend assistance to stranded locals abroad.
The global aviation has come to a standstill in light of the COVID-19 viral pandemic, which has spread across the world. Many international airlines have temporarily shut down their operations in efforts to curb the spread of the disease.
