The delayed shipment of medicine from India has arrived in the Maldives with the assistance from the Government of India.

The shipment was delayed after India announced a nationwide lockdown of 21 days to quell the massive outbreak of Covid-19 there.

State Trading Organization STO had said that this shipment was ordered before the Covid-19 crisis.

Today’s shipment weighed 6.2 tons, which include medicine required to treat Covid-19 as well other necessary medications used in hospitals across the nation.

Foreign Ministry says the delayed shipment of medicines from India will arrive in Maldives on Thursday.

Indian Air force helped assemble the shipment by flying in medicine from India different cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Madhurai to one place.

In a tweet, Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affair Minister Dr. S Jaishankar for this timely support amid the fight against Covid-19.
