Official spokesperson for covid-19 updates Mr. Mabrouk Azeez says the technical team has decided that contact screening would be carried out for all Maldivians who came back from the Uk between 14th and 19th of this month.
Briefing the media, Mr. Mabrouk said out of the Maldivians who came back from the UK before travel between the two countries were suspended, those who returned between 14th to 19th of March would be tested for Covid-19.
Mr. Mabrouk said contact screen would be done for all the Maldivians who travelled back from the UK within the dates even if they show signs of the illness or not.
He added that the purpose of carrying out such a wide range of screening was to find out whether any person who had contacts with these Maldivians have developed signs of the virus.
A total of 18 people have tested positive for Covid-19 here in the Maldives, three of them Maldivians. All three had tested positive after travelling back from the UK where the virus is spreading rapidly.
