Official Spokesperson for Covid-19 related updates Mr. Mabrouk Azeez says 63 Maldivians students studying in Philippines have arrived back to Maldives.
Speaking to the press earlier tonight, Mr. Mabrouk said these 63 students requested a transfer back home after the Philippines was placed under lockdown following a massive outbreak of Covid-19 there.
Government has been assisting Maldivians who are staying abroad come back to the country with many countries across the world under lockdown or under movement control orders.
Under Health Protection Agency guidelines all such Maldivians are placed under quarantine for 14 days at a designated facility established in the country.
Additionally, Mr. Mabrouk said no foreigners entered the country on tourist visa, work permit visa or any other visa today.
Authorities have stopped issuing on-arrival visa to tourists on Friday as government looked to tighten its border to prevent further spread of the highly contagious Covid-19 virus.
Meanwhile Maldives Airports Company MACL announced earlier today that it would close the country’s main hub Velaana International Airport from 9pm to 6 am every day until the 27th of next month.
MACL said medical evacuations and humanitarian flights will be allowed during the closure.
