Maldives Airports Company Limited MACL says Velana International Airport will be closed for commercial operations effective tonight from 9pm to 6am next day.
In a tweet MACL said during the time of closure the airport would be open for medical evacuations and humanitarian flights. MACL said it would accommodate non-scheduled flights with 3 hours of prior notice.
MACL said this the closure would continue until the 27th of next month.
Maldives is effectively under a lockdown amid the global pandemic Covid-19 with authorities suspending on-arrival visa issuance on Friday.
