The first shipment of staple foods containing 500 ton of sugar and 993 ton of rice from India has arrived to Maldives.
The Indian High Commission at Maldives confirms the shipment originated from Tuticorin harbor of the South-Asian ally, while the authority added an extra 1,500 ton of rice and 500 ton of sugar is expected to arrive as a second shipmment to the island nation.
Moreover, India is gearing up to ship 5,000 ton of cement to Maldives in order to ensure the island nation's construction sector remains active.
At a time when the COVID-19 viral pandemic has been spreading across the globe, India has been extending their helping hand to Maldives.
Recently an Indian medical team was dispatched to Maldives in an effort to assist the local medical authorities in countering and combatting the viral disease.
