Several members of the opposition coalition have donated blood heeding the call for more donations from authorities following social distancing measures taken to fight against the global viral outbreak Covid-19.
Progressive Congress Coalition (PNC) said today as part of their efforts to aid Thalassemia patients, several leaders from their coalition donated blood. These include President of PNC, Abdul Raheem Abdulllah, MP for Guraidhoo constituency and vice president of PPM Ghassan Maumoon and also Vice president of PNC and former MP for Baarashu Ibrahim Shujau.
While the opposition held a blood donation drive, the official spokesperson on COVID-19 developments in Maldives Mr Mabrouk Abdul Azeez urged the general public last night to donate blood as much as they can at this time as most donors from the country work in the resorts and have now been restricted to enter inhabited island across the country following the outbreak of global pandemic Covid-19 in several resorts in the country.
Mr. Mabrouk said that this was a special request from the National Thalassemia Center and hoped that the public would heed this compassionate call.
Mr. Mabrouk reminded the public to maintain self-security and preservation in fulfilling this call.
