The samples collected from both Adaaran Club Rannalhi and Centara Grand Maldives on Saturday, have been tested negative for COVID-19 virus.

The confirmation was made by the President's Office Under Secretary and the official spokesperson on COVID-19 developments in Maldives Mr Mabrouk Abdul Azeez.

Mr Azeez made the confirmation on Sunday during a press conference held to brief the local media on the latest updates of the viral outbreak.

Meanwhile, efforts were underway in order to resume general business conduct at the resorts in question.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) had revealed the samples from both resorts were collected from locals, who were employed at the properties.

So far all positive cases for the novel coronavirus have been discovered from tourist properties.

Most of the cases were discovered from tourist resorts, which includes Kuredi Island Resort, Sandies Bathala, Kuramathi Island Resort and Anantara Dhigu.

HPA had placed the aforementioned resorts on lockdown, while tourists and holidaymakers have been restricted from traveling to locally inhabited islands.

Moreover, local guesthouses and city hotels have been barred from allowing new guest bookings; which is more prevalent at the Greater Male' Region where the order was issued first.

Maldives government had announced a State of Public Health Emergency following the first wave of positive cases and subsequently restricting international arrivals into the island nation.

State has currently imposed travel and arrival restrictions on China, Italy, Bangladesh, two provinces of South Korea, Spain, Germany and two regions of France.

Moreover, flights or arrivals from Malaysia have been restricted into Maldives as well, only allowing locals through the gateway.

Ironically, the strongest single tourist markets to Maldives were the first destinations barred from flying in tourists as well; which includes China, Italy and Germany.

The viral outbreak has brought the overall activities of Maldives tourism industry into an unprecedented halt.

The resulting aftermath is expected to recede the country's economic growth significantly, while many speculate Maldives will encounter an overall economic recess.
