Former Vice President of Maldives Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed was 'all praises' to his former political colleague, the ex-President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, in a recent statement.
According to Dr. Jameel, his Presidential comrade; Yameen Abdul Gayoom, faced several challenges and many opposition-driven backlashes during the one-term administration.
Dr. Jameel commented that the former President did not back down in the face of setbacks or politically motivated lambastes. The former VP went on to praise his colleague, adding Yameen did not resign from held post and continued to serve for the best interest of the public until he stepped down in late 2018.
Moreover, Dr. Jameel stated the former President had faced international pressures significantly more than any other Maldives president.
"In the history of Maldives, no other President faced such immense pressure both from internal bodies and external bodies during his tenure other than Yameen Abdul Gayoom. He faced pressures from neighboring nations as well as from the Commonwealth itself," Jameel commented.
Praising the former President, Dr. Jameel stated his political comrade prioritized protecting the interests and welfare of the Maldivian public at all costs regardless of the external pressures and duress from other international bodies.
Dr. Jameel had lamented the state institutions mutinied against its head of state by the eventuality of Yameen's presidency.
According to the former Vice President, Yameen Abdul Gayoom maintained an unwavering commitment to ensuring the public interests were protected and the country's citizens were benefitted regardless of any political upheaval.
In his comments, Dr. Jameel had also placed criticism on the former President Mohamed Nasheed, who resigned from his presidential responsibilities back in 2012 noting that 'running a country' is a tense and intricate work requring strong duty to care and a sense of leadership.
