According to the latest statistics from Ministry of Tourism the total number of tourist arrivals to Maldives in December 2019 was recorded at 171,348.

The Ministry's recent statistics unveil the arrival in December 2019 observed an increase by 13.6% in monthly terms and a 5.4% from the corresponding month in 2018.

Moreover, the statistics for December 2019 also confirms the total number of tourist arrivals to Maldives in 2019 reached 1,702,887 which is a 14.7% increase from 2018.

Europe maintained its dominance with 49% of the total arrivals, which is 833,939 in arrival numbers while the tourist visits from the region grew by 14.8% in the review month.

Meanwhile, Asia and the Pacific region, which contributes the second strongest in arrival numbers shared 41% of the total arrivals which is 705,140 and the market grew by 13.5% by December 2019.

As for single markets, China remained as the strongest single market contributor with 16.7% of the total arrivals. However, the market showed a mere 0.3% growth in arrivals while the total number of arrivals from the country in 2019 was recorded at 284,029.

On the other hand, India showed a promising growth and observed 83.5% of increase in arrivals by December 2019 with total number of visits observed at 166,030.

The island nation currently has a bed capacity of 51,432 which is a 13.9% increase overall.

Meanwhile, Maldives currently has 164 registered tourist resorts with a combined bed capacity of 37,004.

However, the total number of operational resorts as of the review month was at 152 with a combined bed capacity of 35,527.

The total number of registered guesthouses in Maldives as of the review month was 608 with a combined bed capacity of 9,823. However, the total number of operational properties were 607 with a combined bed capacity of 9,813.

Bed nights in December 2019 were at 1,050,365 which is a 15.5% growth whereas the total number of tourist nights for 2019 were observed at 10,689,248 which is a 12.8% growth.
