A prisoner at Maafushi Jail has been apprehended by Maldives Correctional Service while attempting to smuggle in illicit narcotics into the premises.
Reports confirm the prisoner attempted to smuggle drugs by hiding it in his rectum.
Following the nabbing of another attempt by a prisoner, Maldives Correction Service confirmed the method was the most opted technique in smuggling drugs into the penitentiary.
The prisoner was apprehended by Correctional Service during an attempt on Friday, 10 January 2020.
Meanwhile, Correctional Service has not stepped forward in disclosing any further details about the incident.
