Amid public outcry of surging apartment rents in Maldives capital - Male' City - Minister of Communication, Science and Technology has made claims that the already densely populated city is "nowehere near crowded."

The Maldives Minister of Communication, Science and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal also asserted on more housing schemes and projects focused in Greater Male' region at a time hiking rents have become a prime focus of the public.

In a recent tweet Minister Maleeh Jamaal claimed Male' or recently known as the Greater Male' Region - are Hulhumale' and Hulhumale' Phase 2, Vilimale, "Gulhimale" and "Thilamale."

Minister Jamaal also noted that Male' will transform into an even larger metropolis with more housing varieties.

Moreover, he noted the expansion of public transportation and possibility of "green areas" along with shopping malls and cinema complexes.

His comments have come at a time the Male' Tenants Union (MTU) has signed a petition calling for slicing or control of rents from properties in the Maldives capital.

The union is currently preparing to file the petition at Maldives Parliament for due process.

Meanwhile several local politicians have been presenting their own alternative fixes on the surging rent prices.
