Former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed says the US has failed to provide real security to its allies in the Gulf amid a conflict with Iran, which was instigated by the US and Israel.

The US and Israel attacked Iran last February without provocation, and Iran responded by targeting US military sites in the Gulf region. This includes attacks in several Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, and Kuwait.

In a post on his X account, the former President said that the situation in West Asia seems to be shifting, and indications suggest the conflict might be winding down.

He noted that this could mark a turning point in regional dynamics, paving the way for Iran, GCC countries, and Saudi Arabia to reconcile differences.

The former President said, however, that it raises questions about their relationships with external players, particularly the US, which failed to provide the Gulf Countries with real security.

Nasheed said that the idea of these countries operating outside the US security umbrella isn't new, given past interactions.
